1-TYPES OF MOISTURE METERS

When your home or business is damaged by water, it is important that everything is dried in a timely manner. Water tends to migrate to unseen areas of the property causing potential secondary damages such as mold and rot. Executing a timely drying or removal of water plan will help minimize further damage to your home or business. The question is however:

How can we tell if things are dry if we can’t see it or touch are wet? To get an accurate picture of your water damage situation, and determine where the water has traveled, and how deep it has gone, we at SERVPRO of Mountain View/Los Altos/Los Altos Hills use a variety of moisture meters and other exploratory equipment.

There are 3 types of moisture meters:

pin,  pinless and pin/pinless all in one. Additionally, some meters can be equipped with a connection option to add accessory probes that can be inserted deeper into a surface for more accurate core or depth readings.  They all work on the same basic principle.  Moisture conducts electricity.  These tools essentially test the strength of an electrical connection.  Moisture/water conducts electricity perfectly.  The stronger the connection,  the wetter the material.  Our staff can even use Infrared cameras that rely on the notion that wet materials/areas not only conduct electricity better, but they also tend to be cooler.  Infrared cameras give us an better insight on where to look for moisture.

If your home or business is struck with a disaster, calling a professional company is recommended.
